Bezalel Bros Bring Home the Dinner for Zaban Paradies Center
WB Bruce Mellman and Bros Michael Hessing, Alan Proctor and Bruce Rosenblum - our Service Committee Chair - had the honors on Aug. 13 of buying and serving dinner for the guests and staff at the Zaban Paradies Center. It's a quarterly activity for our Lodge Bezalel bros, and we plan to expand our activity to similar organizations in the fall.
We have t he project down to a process. With lodge covering most if not all of the cost (depending on the menu selected by the team), the team members buy and (if necessary) cook the dinner entree at home, and they typically buy salad fixings and desserts. The food is typically delivered to Zaban Paradies, which is based at The Temple. Team members can drop off the food or stay help prepare and serve it. They can join center guests and staff for dinner or leave once the food is ready.
The Zaban Paradies Center provides year round support for homeless couples. Its mission is to keep couples together as they moved from being homeless to finding permanent places to live. Volunteers from numerous educational, religious and service oriented organizations in the community provide hot meals every evening during the residential season, bagged lunches for residents to take with them during the day, and expertise to help residents with life skills development.
The Center maintains a well-stocked clothing closet, organized by volunteers, for residents who are in need of work-appropriate clothing. Bro Marty Cohen collects gently used clothing at our OLMs and brings them to the shelter.
